The beautiful thing about a trip to camp is not only can you leave all your worries home and enjoy the great outdoors, but there are also plenty of chances to grow and learn as a leader. At camp we offer many programs designed to help you learn more about the Scouting and acquire valuable skills you can take back with your unit.
Every morning the Camp Director and the commissioners hold roundtable discussions. Topics vary from day to day, but the goal is to develop discussions about camp and the Scouting program. It is an opportunity for experienced Scouters to share wisdom with rookies and a chance to talk council camp and council business with the man with his finger on the pulse. If that isn't enough, weekly a occurs at the cook demo site and includes a demonstration by the commissioners of some of our commissary delicacies.
The purpose of the adult leader aquatics program is to train leaders to run their own aquatic events. All swimming and boating activities run by a troop must be run according to the Boy Scout programs. Aquatics staffers teach Safety Afloat and Safe Swim Defense on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Arrangements can be made to provide additional hands on aquatic training. Certification will give you the knowledge and skills to run your own unit swims. Troop time activities such as Troop Swims and Float Lunches are an opportunity to practice what you learn right at camp.
Many Boy Scout Adult Leader Training programs and materials are available at camp. Woods Wisdom, Fast Start Training, and Youth Protection programs are among the opportunities available. Contact your commissioner to learn more or sign up.
At camp we can always use adult leader help. Put your special skills and knowledge to work assisting and coaching in our program areas. Help needed most acting as extra eyes on the waterfront and the shooting ranges. If you are handy and have special knowledge, be sure to check with our ranger about some special projects you could help work.
Leaders can also work to earn awards and honors. On the waterfront leaders can swim the mile, earn Snorkeling BSA, or work on BSA Lifeguard. Check with your commissioner about camp awards like the Awase Award and ScoutMaster Merit Badge.
