Boy Scout Resident Camp was held at Bear Paw from 17 June to 4 August in 1990, including a Independence Day break. More than 875 Scouts visited camp during the six weeks of summer operations representing 91 troops from around Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.
1990 is notable for the beginnings of the High Adventure program at Bear Paw. As part of a pilot program, mulitple troops took a three day canoe trek on nearby northern Wisconsin rivers. Much like today, these pioneers spent the early part of the week learning to pack and plan a canoe trip and developing paddling skills. The sole member of the Bear Paw High Adventure staff then accompanied each troop on the river. Plaques commerating the innaugral High Adventure trips can be seen hanging in the Nicolet Dining Hall
In the spring of 1990, US Navy Seabees spent a couple of days with heavy equipment in camp making improvments. This included clearing and stumping a patch of trees on the southern edge of the occupied portions of camp, near Onieda and Kickapoo sites, for creation of an athletic field and emergency helipad. For the next few summers this was just a dirt patch in the middle of nowhere and quickly earned the nickname Field of Dreams (a reference to the 1989 motion picture of the same name about a man (Kevin Costner) who builds a baseball diamond in a corn patch hoping it will get used). The name stuck.
