Boy Scout Resident Camp was held at Bear Paw from June to August in 1987.
Billed as the Bear Paw's latest high adventure offering, the Slide for Life was first put into operation in 1987. The Slide for Life was a zip-line constructed of a pulley with a handle hanging from a high tension cable strung between the top of Pine Lodge Hill and Potawattomi Point. The goal was to ride the line and bomb into the lake. Unfortunately, the cable tension was such that riding it developed a harmonic wave that was large enough to force smaller riders to release early, often landing in the Bear Paw muck instead of open water. For 1988 a tower was constructed on the lakeshore in an attempt to minimize this effect, but the rides only were more difficult and the Slide for Life was deconstructed after two unsuccessful seasons. What remains today is the large clearing in the trees along the lakeshore path pointing to a wildly bent pine on the point.
